Tom Simplot joined Sugar Creek Capital as Housing Policy Director after serving as Director of the Arizona Department of Housing (ADOH). During his tenure at ADOH the Agency streamlined its annual Qualified Allocation Plan (QAP) for federal low-income housing tax credits (LIHTC); successfully implemented a new state housing tax credit program; improved transparency and communication with stakeholders; eliminated duplicative regulatory mechanisms; and increased the number of new affordable housing units year-over-year by almost 200%.
Tom lived in Arizona for 40 years, serving as a member of the Phoenix City Council for more than 10 years and as president and CEO of the Arizona Multihousing Association. Tom was very active in the community, serving on the boards of the Valley of the Sun United Way, Arizona Chamber of Commerce & Industry, and Phoenix Theatre. He also served as president of the Maricopa County Board of Health and the Maricopa County Industrial Development Authority.
Tom graduated from Arizona State University and from the University of Iowa College of Law. Tom is licensed to practice law in the state of Arizona.
Now living in Washington, DC, Tom loves living on the water, kayaking regularly on the Potomac River.
